Q. What version of Windows do I need?
A. Any version of Windows will work
provided you can use IE 5.5 or above as your browser (see next question)
Q. What browser do I need?
A. You'll need Microsoft Internet Explorer
(IE) 5.5 or better. You can download the latest version of Internet
Explorer here
Q. What is Adobe SVG 3.0 and how do
I get it?
A. Adobe SVG is a graphics plug-in,
similar to Flash, which enables us to make best use of our unique charting
capabilities. Most installations of IE 6.0 (particularly when bundled
with Windows XP) automatically incorporates SVG within it. All you need
to do is accept the Adobe License Agreement and you're ready to view our Risk
Profile Charts in color! Click here
to download Adobe SVG 3.0 and select OPEN. DO NOT SAVE since this will
just take up space on your hard drive and will not run the program itself.
2. Log-in and Access [back to top]
Q. I can't log in
A. If you're an existing member, then
please take care to enter your user name correctly. If you've never
registered then please register. If you've lost your password, click
on "Lost Password", enter your User Name and we'll send you your
password.
Q. I want to change my log-in details
A. Once you've logged in, just click
on "Update Profile" to amend your details.
Q. Can I log in on more than one machine?
A. You may only log into one session
at a time. If someone logs in with your username and password while
the account is already open, the original log-in will be terminated.
So make sure to keep your username and password safe!
Q. I've lost my password
A. Click on the Lost Password link
on the left hand menu panel and we'll send it to your registered email address.
You'll need to remember what your log-in / email address is though!
3. Account Information [back to top]
Q. I've lost my password
A. Click on the Lost Password link
on the left hand menu panel and we'll send it to your registered email address.
You'll need to remember what your log-in / email address is though!
4. User Guide [back to top]
Q. Can I make the User Guide bigger?
A. The User Guide is built to cater
for the lowest resolution monitors, which unfortunately means that higher
resolution monitors suffer. We will create a standard HTML User Guide
in due course.
Q. Is there any more help available
than the User Guide?
A. Aside from this FAQ section, we
have comprehensive Help Guides within each section of the OptionsMastery
Analyzer. The other sections of the site are intuitive and self
explanatory.
5. University [back to top]
Q. Does the University cover every
topic for options?
A. The University covers many of the
vital areas of your options education. To say that it covers everything
would be an overstatement, but it certainly covers the essential foundation
blocks, including the main risk profiles, the valuation of options, options
in the real market place and the Greeks.
Q. Are there any strategies within
the University?
A. The strategies are contained within
the Strategy Guides. You access them via the Strategy Matrix and link
to the Strategy Guide for strategy you are selecting.
Q. I'm sure I answered a Spot Test
question correctly! Can I send in the details?
A. By all means! Send it in to
spottest@optionsmastery.com
and we'll investigate the situation!
6. Strategy Matrix [back to top]
Q. How do the buttons work?
A. When the buttons are gray they are
inactive and when they are blue they are active filters.
Q. I keep linking to the Guide when
I want to go to the Analyzer
A. Make sure you make the Analyzer
button go blue before you click on your chosen strategy.
Q. I only see 22 strategies when I
link onto the Strategy Matrix
A. When you enter the Strategy Matrix
only the Novice and Intermediate strategies are displayed. Click on
the Advance and Expert button within the Filters Section of the Strategy Matrix
to make them turn blue and then you'll see all the strategies.
Q. I only see 58 strategies when I
select all Levels
A. That's because 6 strategies have
"strategies within strategies". For Example, there are two
different ways of assembling a Long Iron Butterfly, Short Iron Butterfly,
Call Ratio Backspread, Put Ratio Backspread, Ratio Call Spread and Ratio Put
Spread. This effectively creates six more strategies, hence you'll see
58, but we refer to 64.
7. Strategy Guides [back to top]
Q. I can't find the strategy I want
to learn about.
A. You find your preferred strategy
by using the Strategy Matrix and clicking the filter buttons.
Q. I'm sure I answered a Spot Test
question correctly! Can I send in the details?
A. By all means! Send it in to
spottest@optionsmastery.com
and we'll investigate the situation!

8. Strategy Analyzers [back to top]
Q. How can I find help for the Strategy
Analyzers?
A. Every section within each Strategy
Analyzer has a Help section attached. Just click on the question mark
(?) at the end of each blue header strip and a help menu for that section
will appear.
Q. I can't find a stock symbol
A. Make sure you type in the stock
ticker details correctly. If you are sure there is an error on our part,
please email us at data@optionsmastery.com
and we'll look into it.
Q. Which price is used for the stock
data?
A. Depending on the strategy we either
use the Bid, Ask, Last or Mid Price. If in doubt you can simply use
the Last by deleting the numbers in the other fields. The reason we
sometimes use the Bid or Ask is because some strategies involve buying or
selling the actual stock itself, in which case we buy at the Ask and sell
at the Bid.
Q. What do I do if the data isn't working?
A. The Strategy Analyzers are programmed
to work with or without data. In which case, simply enter in a stock
value in the LAST field.
Q. Do I need to buy data?
A. The Strategy Analyzers already contain
20 minute delayed data. If you want to upgrade to live price data, you
can do so here.
Q. What data does the application have?
A. We currently have all listed US
stock and stock options data. We plan to incorporate futures and other
markets in due course.
Q. The stock Bid and Ask prices are
zero
A. Outside market hours, particularly
at weekends, the quality of data throughout the market can be inconsistent.
The Strategy Analyzers are designed to cope with this and revert to the Last
price. We achieve this by setting the Bid and Ask to zero so that the
calculations work as they are intended to.
Q. What is Adobe SVG 3.0 and how do
I get it?
A. Adobe SVG is a graphics plug-in,
similar to Flash, which enables us to make best use of our unique charting
capabilities. Most installations of IE 6.0 (particularly when bundled

Profile Charts in color! Click here to download Adobe SVG 3.0 and select OPEN.
DO NOT SAVE since this will just take up space on your hard drive and will
not run the program itself.
Q. I can't see any charts
A. You may need to download Adobe SVG
3.0. Click here for the appropriate download for your operating
system and select OPEN to run the program. DO NOT SAVE since this will
just take up space on your hard drive and will not run the program itself!!
Q. I can't see any charts even though
I've downloaded Adobe SVG 3.0
A. When you download Adobe SVG 3.0
you must select OPEN to run the program. DO NOT SAVE since this will
just take up space on your hard drive and will not run the program itself.
Q. I can't find my saved trades when
I try to open them.
A. You may be behind a proxy server,
in which case, you'll need to press F5 when you open the "Open Saved
Trades" window.
Q. My trade shows that I can't make
a profit!
A. That's because your inputs are dictating
that to be the case. That could be because of bad data or because the
trade you're assembling isn't a good trade. That's part of what the
Strategy Analyzer is there to help you with.
Q. My trade shows that there is now
way for me to lose money!
A. Check the figures you're submitting.
It's almost impossible to put together a trade where you have no risk, except
with a Collar.
Q. The charts are in conflict with
my risk profile tables.
A. This shouldn't happen. If
you think this has occurred, please send details of your submitted calculation
to miscalc@optionsmastery.com.
The charts and tables are programmed to be able to accept both sensible and
implausible data entries, and should always be consistent with each other.
If in doubt, the charts are preferred because there is no validation involved
in their creation.
Q. The Bid prices are higher than the
Ask prices.
A. Sometimes, outside market hours,
prices can become inconsistent among all data providers. This should
resolve itself during market hours.
Q. The Yield Tables seem to be different
for different strategies.
A. Yes, the Yield Tables will vary
according to what type of strategy is being analyzed.
Q. When I click on a chart the expanded
version is blank.
A. Click on the small chart once again
and the expanded chart will populate. Two slow clicks on the small chart
will work fine to populate the expanded chart.
Q. I really like a trade but the probability
is low.
A. Remember that the probabilities
and expected returns are purely mathematical algorithms based on the Normal
Distribution. As such their value for isolated individual trades is
questionable but we include them anyway. You should not base your investment
decisions purely on Normal Distribution probabilities, expected rewards or
expected returns.
9. Test Yourself [back to top]
Q. I've seen some of the questions
before, can I have new questions?
A. The questions are randomly generated
so there is a possibility you'll get repeats. Soon we'll be enhancing
this part of the site so you can see which questions you've answered before.
Q. Can I record my scores or retake
a specific test?
A. Again, we're going to be improving
this area of the site so you can see your past scores, retake past tests and
select specific strategies you want to be tested on.
Q. Can I be tested purely on a specific
section?
A. In due course we'll be incorporating
this functionality. The infrastructure is in place.
Q. Can I see which questions I got
right and which I got wrong?
A. In due course, we'll allow you to
do this. Again, the infrastructure is in place.
10. TradeFinder [back to top]
Q. Can I get a discount if I buy multiple
TradeFinders but at different times?
A. Not at this stage. Our TradeFinders
are already very competitively priced, and contain more intelligence than
rival products. We regularly make improvements to all our products without
charging more. Discounts are made for multiple or bulk purchases.
Q. How do the TradeFinders
work?
A. The TradeFinders automatically
provide the highest yielding trades in the market for selected strategies,
subject to our proprietary algorithms and filters for parameters such as adequate
liquidity. We only look for those securities with enough volume and
open interest to enable you find a market if you want to reverse your position.
Q. Why are there 7 different TradeFinders?
A. Because each TradeFinder
is for a different strategy. The algorithms and concepts that go into
the different TradeFinders vary considerably for each strategy.
As such, each TradeFinder is its own distinct product, catering
to the wide-ranging requirements of different customer preferences.
Q. Can I swap one TradeFinder
for another?
A. Typically not at this stage.
In isolated cases we may make exceptions, but please note that once you swap
out of one, you cannot swap back.
Q. I found a trade that should have
been included within the TradeFinder list for a specific strategy.
A. Remember, we filter for specific
liquidity and other requirements before running the algorithms. Therefore,
it is possible that some seemingly high yielding trades escape our net, but,
with some research, you may discover that they possess some rather disadvantageous
characteristics that makes us disqualify the trade after our filtering process.
Q. The TradeFinder results
are different when I then use the OptionsMastery Analyzer.
A. The TradeFinder results
are calculated at the end of the previous day. Any differences in the
results are purely a matter of data changes either during after hours trading
or just during the normal hours of trading on the day following the results
calculations.
11. Data [back to top]
Q. Do I need to buy data?
A. The OptionsMastery Strategy Analyzer
already contains 20 minute delayed data.
